My mind has been awash lately with whispers from the enemy. When it gets bad I think of a song by the band NEEDTOBREATHE called " Devil's Been Talkin' ". If you haven't heard it you absolutely need to give it a listen. In fact, I'm linking the YouTube video below, go listen to it! I'll wait.....
*chokes on coffee* Oh hey! You startled me. Good song, right!? The whole idea is the devil is going to whisper to us, remind us constantly at how we've failed, sinned, fell short....
Like ivy it all seems harmless; maybe even beautiful at first. Satan needs only provide doubt in our mind for the ideas to take root, but those ideas are tendrils. They seek out and find every small crack and weakness to maniplulate any spot where it can make a home; breaking apart the very morter holidng us together.
Remember: The devil was once an angel. It wasn't until he thought he could be God that he was cast out of heaven, but hasn't forgotten what he learned! Satan knew the Heavenly Father and the Savior intimately, he knows the Word of God, the Father's promises to us, and Christ's abundant love. What the devil relies on is that WE DON'T know the Word of God, the Father's promises to us, or Christ's abundant love.
Satan uses half truths against each of us and his are lies of omission. The devil says "You aren't good enough. Look what you've done! For shame... you've messed it all up. You can never be loved. You filthy, dirty, nothing - you disgust me so you must disgust God too! If you're disguting to God, then no one on Earth is going to have you! Why do you even bother? What's the point?"
The truth is those are not lies. Sinners aren't good enough. We have messed it all up. We are filthy, dirty nothings and disgusting to the eyes of God...
Satan leaves out the rest of it. Below is only a sample of truths from the Word (all from the English Standard Version/Translation). I cannot tell you how many verses I had to cut just to make this readable. I'm pleading with you to read more than what's here.
