This morning, my Facebook feed was filled with a variety of calls for a response to all the violence in the news; seemingly out of nowhere.  The truth is, man has always been violent.  Ever since sin entered this world, we have been a murderous bunch.  The fall of man (sin) happened in Genesis chapter three and by chapter four we were killing each other!  It makes me long for what I thought were simpler times [but in reality weren't much different from our current chaos and confusion].

As I read the verses below, I am reminded that God is not far off or forgetful.  God told us in Jeremiah He would fulfill His promise, and He did, through the life and resurrection of Jesus.  Now, we await excitedly for Jesus to fulfill His promise to come again, defeat our enemy once and for all, and restore things back to the way God created them to be!  Until that day comes, here's a little line that pops into my head when the world is going off the rails: "lost people are gonna act lost."

Family Scripture Reading:

Jeremiah 33:14-15
"The days are coming,’ declares the Lord, ‘when I will fulfill the good promise I made to the people..."

Advent Activity:

The Jesse Tree is a way to share over 4,000 years of history leading up to the birth of Christ with your children in fun coloring ornaments.

It is traditionally done over each of the days of Advent, however for today's activity you can divide up the ornaments between your children and allow them to color as many as they would like. They can then be glued to construction paper and hung on the tree. You can also glue or tape the matching instruction card to the back.

As you hang the ornaments ask your children if they know what the symbols stand for and discuss those they don't know.

Let them know that God had always planned for Jesus to be born from the "line of Jesse" and that these ornaments represent the family tree of Jesus.

You will find a PDF with the ornaments and matching instruction cards HERE.
This Gingerbread couple makes me nostalgic for the days were I played carefree with them as my Daddy carefully hung ornaments all over our family Christmas tree.  All was right with the world and nothing bad ever happens.
